Slash your travel budget to Spain and Portugal by half. Here’s how!
Spain and Portugal are two countries which are often visited together. The cost of travelling to major cities like Madrid and Barcelona is much higher when compared to the southern cities of Spain like Seville and Granada. Travelling around Portugal is considerably cheaper when compared to Spain. How much does it cost to go to Spain and Portugal?
The daily average price of travelling to Spain and Portugal is 70-80 Euros per person per day
(Note: This budget will suit if you are a traveller who seeks comfort during travel and wouldn’t prefer backpacking through hostels. It is not a budget for luxury travel.)
In 80 Euros a day you can comfortably spend 3 weeks in Spain and Portugal. This cost includes:
- your accommodation at central locations in either AirBnBs or private rooms in hostels or mid-range hotels
- sightseeing and attractions
- food
- nightlife
- daily travel within the city
- travel between cities
- a little bit of shopping
If you are a little careful while splurging on food and drinks in Spain and Portugal, then you can do this trip at an even lower budget.

Additionally we spent on our return flight tickets from India to Madrid and Schengen visa. This made our overall cost of travelling to Spain and Portugal from India, 110 Euros per person per day. For our 3 week trip, we spent approximately INR 3.25 Lacs for two adults (exchange rate when we did the trip was approximately 1 Euro = INR 71). The price includes everything including shopping and duty-free purchases. A similar trip for 2 adults organised by a travel agent would easily cost you more than INR 5 Lakhs.
