1. SELF DRIVE THE GARDEN ROUTE
South Africa no doubt has some of the worlds best natural scenery. If you enjoy scenic drives with good roads then you can’t miss driving the garden route in South Africa. Along the drive, you would come across a zillion picture perfect spots where you would want to stop and capture the view. There was a magic in natural light before sunset in South Africa. We covered the Garden Route between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth in around 9 days and it remains one of our best drives of our lives till date. ‘A perfect drive through the Garden Route in South Africa’ describes the itinerary we followed in detail.
2. SUNSET AT TABLE MOUNTAIN
One thing you can’t miss when in Cape Town is visiting the top of the Table Mountain. You must visit the place either during sunrise or sunset. Since we are not morning people we went in the evening and witnessed some outstanding views. Initially, the sky was slightly clear and we could see Cape Town from the mountain but within half an hour the scene changed drastically. The mountain was windy and covered with a blanket of clouds which gave us a feeling of being cut off from the world. You can choose to hike or take the cable car.
3. SELF DRIVE SAFARI
Another unique experience you can enjoy while doing the Garden Route in South Africa is a Self Drive Safari. We did ours at Addo Elephant National Park close to Port Elizabeth which is habitat to over 600 elephants and many other animal species like zebras, Black Rhino, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Cheetah, Hyaena etc. You can enjoy the safari at your own pace and get to be close to animals in their natural habitat. For some tips to enjoy a self-drive safari in South Africa read, How to spend one-day on a self-drive safari at Addo Elephant National Park?
4. SKY DIVING IN SOUTH AFRICA
If sky diving has been in your bucket list then its time you tick it off your list in South Africa. We went for our first tandem skydive at Mossel Bay in South Africa and can’t recommend it enough. It is amongst the cheapest skydives in the world and you get to jump with professional skydivers. Nothing can beat the thrill of the free fall and the view of Indian Ocean, beaches and the mountains.
5. GO FOR WINE TASTING
South Africa is one of the leading wine producing nations and ranks as seventh in overall volume production of wine. It produces around 3.9% of the world’s wine and has some of the most scenic vineyards. There are many beautiful wine producing towns under one hours drive from Cape Town like Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl. Even if you are short on time wine tasting at few of these wine farms is a must. To know more about our wine tasting experience read, How to spend a perfect day in Franschhoek.
6. ENJOY A TASTING MENU
If you like experimenting with food and are a fan of gourmet Michelin star meals then Cape Town is the place to try some of the best tasting menus. Not only would your taste buds thank you for these meals but they are also affordable compared to other parts of the world. Each course presented to you would be Instagram worthy and equally tasty at the same time.
